BETHESDA, BURRY GREEN
For over 200 years Christians have gathered to celebrate and witness to our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at Bethesda Chapel, Burry Green. We are situated about fifteen miles from the City of Swansea, on the beautiful Gower peninsula, (the first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK).
John Wesley, in the eighteenth century, during a visit to the Gower noted:
‘Here, all the people talk English and are in general the most plain, loving people in Wales. It is therefore no wonder that they receive the word with all readiness of mind.’
It is true that that we all speak English, but it is not for us to assess whether we fulfill the rest of Wesley’s description! We are thankful that over two hundred years later at Burry Green we continue to ‘receive the word with all readiness of mind.’
Our chapel’s history goes back to 1813 when Lady Diana Barham, out of concern for the spiritual needs of the area, employed a minister and built the beautiful chapel and manse. We would love for you to join us if you are moving in to the area to live, if your family has been in the area for generations or if you are here for a brief visit. We continue to be a very active, friendly and warm church family and we love to welcome families and children to our services. We are committed to understanding the positive and life transforming message of the Bible for ourselves. We want to play our part in helping people, both locally and across the world, to discover the new life in Jesus for themselves. Click to find the programme of events.
Today we are led by our minister, Revd Iain B Hodgins and three elders. Our fellowship is part of the Gower Pastorate which encompasses Cheriton, Old Walls, Crofty and Penclawdd.
